LointerHOME’s latest restoration: 426 King Street, Pottstown

Last week I was thrilled to attend LointerHOME‘s open house at 426 King Street to see how Amanda and Cristian DeSeta have returned this stunning Victorian to its original grandeur and added the  modern amenities that today’s homebuyers are looking for. Like their previous Pottstown projects on King Street and at 467 Farmington Avenue, they have once again used quality craftsmanship and an attention to detail that brings out the best of the old and new.

Here are the particulars: 111 years young, almost 4000 sq ft, 4 bedrooms, 2 full, 2 powder baths, original hardwood floors and all new appliances, with an asking price of $168,512. The sellers are offering 3% seller’s assist, paying closing costs, a 1-year home warranty, and inspections to be completed before an offer is made – all this to allow a stress-free purchase.

Work has already begun on 424 King Street, where the DeSetas will locate their headquarters. LointerHOME has ongoing restoration projects in Florida and California.

If you would like more information or to schedule a visit to 426 King Street, contact the listing agent, Lori Vanderbilt at Coldwell Banker Hearthside.

Party at the library on a Saturday night? Strange, but true!

Are your Saturday evening plans still up in the air? Come out and enjoy “Wines of the Southern Hemisphere” in a fundraiser taking place tonight, November 5th from 6:30-9 pm at the Pottstown Regional Public Library at 500 E. High Street. Tickets are $40 per person.

Not only will you be helping the library to continue its comprehensive programming for children, teens and adults, but you’ll get to learn more about wines from Dean and Lisa Foster of Vintage Connections. There will be food by chef Jerry DeLena and music by classical guitarist Dillon Taylor.

As a reader and a writer, I think stories and story-telling are fundamental to who we are as human beings, how we try to make sense of the world. On the most basic level, this is what public libraries are all about – making our history and stories accessible to all, letting us hear all the voices that have something to say.

I hope to see you there!

Squeeze in a visit to a park before the sun goes down!

Monacacy Hill Rec Area

It is an absolutely gorgeous day! If you’re reading this, you’re missing an incredible opportunity to enjoy one of the area’s many fabulous parks, playgrounds and trails before the next hurricane or snowstorm hits!

Please visit our Parks & Rec page to see where all the parks are in Pottstown and the surrounding area.

Last fall, Rosemary Keane and I visited all of them and blogged about them for the Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation. We found so many gems, and trust that you and your family have, too. These pages have gotten lots of hits over the past year, and we encourage you to keep checking them out and discovering the great outdoor resources that our section of southeastern Pennsylvania has to offer.

PAID hires Steven Bamford as executive director

Earlier today an article in The Mercury‘s online business section announced the hiring of Steven Bamford by PAID, Inc. to serve as the first executive director of the revamped economic development entity responsible for Pottstown’s revitalization. Roy’s Rants writes that Mr. Bamford’s first day will be November 10th. Mr. Bamford brings more than 20 years of economic development experience to the position. There is much work to be done, and it’s a relief and very welcome news to hear that Pottstown has got someone with his credentials working on its behalf.  Welcome aboard!

As a reader and a writer, I think stories and story-telling are fundamental to who we are as human beings, how we try to make sense of the world, share and learn from each other, and, sometimes, how we find comfort and keep up the courage to go on. On the most basic level, this is what public libraries are all about – making our history and stories accessible to all, letting us hear all the voices that have something to say.

I hope to see you there!

Presented by TCN and coordinated by the TCN Exelon Nuclear Workforce Development Program, the Job Seekers’ Forum will include:  AlliedBarton Security, Exelon Nuclear, HCR ManorCare, Lowe’s, PeopleShare Staffing, Pottstown Memorial Medical Center, and Robert Half International.

“Unemployment is a major issue in today’s economy and especially in the Greater Pottstown area, where the unemployment rate was 11% in August,” said Jennifer Doyle, executive director at TCN.  “Workforce development is a major focus of our efforts at TCN and we believe programs like this will help job seekers in our community gain the necessary tools and information to best position themselves for a new job.  We appreciate Exelon Nuclear and the other companies participating in the program for stepping up to help.”

PIPPIN is the tongue-in-cheek fairy tale that captivated Broadway audiences with its pop score and show-stopping numbers. A young prince longs for true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power. In the end, is the answer simpler than he had imagined? PIPPIN is by three-time Oscar®-winning composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz, the creator of WICKED, GODSPELL, POCAHONTAS, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME and THE PRINCE OF EGYPT, among many other musicals!
