SPRING AWAKENING (rock musical)

Book and lyrics by Steven Sater; Music by Duncan Sheik

Director – Dr. Beverly Redman; Music Director – Deborah Stimson-Snow

Thursdays thru Sundays, thru Oct 13th

Contains mature themes, sexual content, and adult language

Winner of 8 Tony Awards (including Best Musical), 4 Olivier Awards (including Best Musical), and 4 Drama Desk Awards, Spring Awakening is a cross-generational phenomenon that transcends age and cultural barriers! It’s a high energy musical adaptation of Frank Wedekind’s controversial expressionistic play from 1891, about the trials, tribulations, and exhilaration of the teen years – issues that still resonate with teens and adults today. Told with poignancy and passion, it’s a fast-paced, gripping celebration of youth and self-discovery in a world of unresponsive adults. With a true indie-rock score, the music has been described as “the most gorgeous Broadway score this decade” (Entertainment Weekly).

Facilitated Panel Discussion – Thurs, Oct 3rd!

Dr. Marvin A. Marsh (First Baptist Church); Jena Stoltzfus (Creative Health)

The public is invited to attend a facilitated panel discussion about the important themes and issues presented in Spring Awakening, immediately following the performance this Thursday, October 3rd. Curtain time is 7:30 pm; panel discussion will begin at approximately 9:45 pm. All are welcome. For those wishing to see the show in advance, ticket information is listed below.

Gorgeous Victorian available at 259 Walnut Street

There’s a beautifully restored Victorian on the market for $164,900 at 259 Walnut Street in Pottstown. Looks like it’s got a 2-story garage with a workshop; this is a huge added benefit in a Pottstown home. I pass by this charming block periodically just because it’s got several lovely homes with wonderful front porches. It’s in the vicinity of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the Pottstown School District administration building. The home can be seen on this YouTube video. It’s listed by Brian Kelly of Kelly Real Estate. Check it out!

“When We Were Soldiers” opens tomorrow at ArtFusion 19464

I am so grateful and proud to have been part of “When We Were Soldiers,” an exhibit showcasing the stories, memories, and artifacts of local Vietnam veterans. It opens tomorrow at ArtFusion 19464, at 254 E. High Street, in Pottstown. See the Mercury’s awesome coverage here.

An opening reception and welcome home ceremony will run from 5-8 pm, beginning at the Borough parking lot at High and Charlotte Streets. There will be a motorcycle cavalcade and speakers to give the “welcome home” that these veterans never received. I, along with writer Parker Blaney, interviewed the vets this past summer and worked with them to draft narratives of their experiences, from getting drafted to their service, and their experiences coming home, re-integrating into civilian life, and the long-term effects of war. These men were brave once again to have this dialogue and agree to share it with the general public.

Cathy Paretti of ArtFusion has put their stories on homemade paper and combined them with photos and all kinds of articles that these veterans and others brought back with them. It will be a truly educational exhibit, appropriate for middle school students and older, about this time in our country’s history. Please plan to visit sometime between Sept. 20 – Nov. 9.
