ArtFusion holding Beef ‘n Beer fundraiser

Join ArtFusion 19464 on Saturday, August 24 from 6-9pm at the Ballroom on High at 310 E. High Street in Pottstown for a Beef and Beer Fundraiser.

This fun end-of-summer beef and beer features beer courtesy of Victory Beer, food by Boneyard Joe’s (House of Great Sandwiches and BBQ) and Montesano Bros Bucktown Market & Cafe, live music and a fun 50/50 raffle.

Pottstown’s Annual Sidewalk Sale this Saturday

Please check out The Mercury’s recent article (partially re-printed below) about Pottstown’s Annual Sidewalk Sale, coming up this Saturday.

Summer is time for savings in downtown Pottstown, especially this Saturday, July 20th,

when the annual Sidewalk Sale takes to the streets from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

According to Main Street Manager Sheila Dugan, the day will include offers from more than 40 downtown merchants, as well as face painting, a visit from Rainbow the Clown and collections of Pottstown School uniforms.

Demonstrations will be provided by CrossFit at 21 N. Hanover St. at 12:45, 2:45 and again at 4 p.m.

Also providing demonstrations at 307 E. High St. will be Red Cloud Kung Fu at 12, 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.

Aug. 6th: Mark calendar now for National Night Out

There will be a variety of neighborhood-friendly activities on tap for National Night Out, America’s Night Against Crime, being held this year on August 6th.

First United Methodist Church at 414 E. High Street in Pottstown is participating and inviting the whole community to join them. They are sponsoring a “Fire and Ice” event, serving Pastor Will’s chili and Rita’s water ice to friends and neighbors from 6 – 8:30 pm that evening. There will be a Goodwill firetruck, firemen, dalmatians, and a craft for small children. Come on out to meet your neighbors, the first step in building a strong, safe community!

Adult Gardener Workshop at MOSAIC Community Garden tonight

What:    Adult Workshop 1 – Organic vs. Conventional Gardening
             Project: Hanging Planter using Recycled Fabrics
 
Tina is ready and set to facilitate a workshop/group discussion on Organic vs. Conventional Gardening.  She will also provide instruction on how to make a hanging plant bag using recycled fabric!
 
Please plan to attend the class that day (even bring a friend) to understand the benefits of organic gardening and how a recycled old shirt, pantyhose or other materials can be used to create a wonderful vertical garden.

Girl Scouts collecting school uniforms in Pottstown on behalf of Cluster

A local Pottstown Girl Scout Troop is collecting new or used clothing that can be used as student uniforms in the Pottstown School District, such as white, light blue, or navy polo shirts, turtlenecks, certain sweaters and sweatshirts and navy blue or khaki pants, shorts, skirts, or skorts. All sizes.

All uniforms will be donated to the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities to help children in Pottstown. Victoria Bumstead, who is the Volunteer Coordinator for the Cluster has indicated that uniforms are a huge need for their organization to support children in our community.

Steel River Playhouse to hold gala honoring Bentleys of VideoRay

Area businesses and community members are invited to celebrate another sensational season of educational and performance programming at Steel River Playhouse, during their Annual Gala on Friday, June 7th at 6:00 pm.

This year’s honorees are Susan and Scott Bentley, philanthropists and principal owners of VideoRay, recently relocated to Pottstown as part of the renaissance of this historic downtown. The celebration also includes recognition of Deborah Stimson-Snow, Steel River’s Artistic Director and recipient of the 2013 Advocacy for Equal Opportunity Award from the PA Human Rights Commission.

Support local Vietnam Veterans Chapter 565: Eat at Wendy’s today from 5-8 pm

Our local Vietnam veterans take care of the memorial in Memorial Park; they participate in Memorial Day programs at local schools; they annually replace the flags at veterans’ plots in area cemeteries; they properly retire used flags; and they are instrumental in Memorial Day and Fourth of July parades.

Pottsgrove Manor celebrates annual Colonial May Fair on Saturday, May 4th

Bring the whole family out to welcome spring at this annual event! Held each year on the first Saturday in May, Pottsgrove Manor’s Annual Colonial May Fair is a local tradition. Visitors can come back year after year and see something new and different at each year’s fair. Guests can enjoy a variety of 18th century entertainments, including magic shows, music, puppet theater, and the traditional dance around the colorful Maypole. There are games, contests, and activities for young visitors. Early American crafters give demonstrations of historic trades and sell their wares, and food vendors offer tasty treats. Suggested Donation: $2 per person.

Parking
Free parking is available at the Carousel at Pottstown building, 30 West King Street. Visitors can then either walk up the street or get a free ride on the restored Pottstown trolley from the parking area to the Manor. During the fair, Pottsgrove Manor’s parking lot is reserved for handicapped parking only.

Once you arrive on-site, be sure to stop by the Information Tent to get information about the fair, Pottsgrove Manor, and other upcoming events!

Stop by Grumpy’s Hand-Carved Sandwich Shop at 137 East High Street anytime after 11 am TODAY, when the festivities will get underway to unveil a new sandwich created by the Pottstown High School winners of the Chopped competition.

The winning team of Hannah Irvin and Alyssa Vanish, shown here with Sheila and Gene Dugan, will be on hand with their classmates to celebrate and promote the culinary arts program at the high school.
